ROBERTA ORIO STUDIO

period: 2025

The opening to the public of Roberta Orio’s personal studio at Palazzo Soderini, in the heart of Venice, was the spark that triggered the collaboration with AtemporaryStudio.
In line with the identity of the place — an informal research space open to the gazes, languages and work of artist friends, photographers, writers — AtemporaryStudio aims at promoting the circulation of the cultural programme conceived by Roberta Orio Studio in order to stimulate opportunities for encounters and multidisciplinary cultural debate.

Introduction
Roberta Orio Studio
opened its doors to the public for the first time during The Venice Glass Week 2024 with the exhibition La linea del fuoco (The line of fire) centred on the artistic practice of Lino Tagliapietra, Cristiano Bianchin and Maria Grazia Rosin as seen through the photographs of Orio herself.
A selection from her archives to tell a piece of experience through her gaze as a photographer, of someone who has always tried to look beyond the material, to observe the work as an experience in order to give it a new possible reading.
An exhibition that anticipates the curatorial line of the 2025 programme centred on three main moments of encounter: A porte aperte to visit the studio and browse through the archive of works produced; In mostra to get to know the works of some artists with whom Roberta Orio has interacted over time and with whom she has built up a relationship of profound esteem; Parlami di te to compare experiences, present ideas and projects in a round table format.

In Roberta Orio’s own words
Studio Roberta Orio is my studio—not a gallery. It is my free space, one that wants to remain borderline, where the common thread connecting the In mostra projects, the Parlami di te moments, and A porte aperte is represented by the relationships I have built over the years with people with whom I have developed harmony and affinity. So, at Studio Roberta Orio, you’ll find artists, writers, designers, art directors, graphic designers… but above all, friends—people with whom I have come to identify over time. If nothing else, because it is in the way we approach things and events that I have found myself. Studio Roberta Orio is both a physical and conceptual space—my space—where I take my photographs, but also a place I dedicate to the experiences that have profoundly shaped me, offering me visions of deep pleasure, fulfillment, meaning, creativity, and life itself. No rules, no alignment—except for the pleasure of being together for who we are, for what we do, but above all, for how we present ourselves. If I had to imagine a curatorial line, I would envision that of time, which always brings new experiences, selecting itself naturally. Just like I do with my photographs: I keep the ones I find interesting, while I archive the others.
I’ll end with a quote from the book “Di cose, fatti e animali siciliani” by Diego Mormorio, which this year opens the initiatives of Studio Roberta Orio: “I believe that the richness and industriousness of a place should always be accompanied by cheerful gatherings, which create harmony among people. Or am I wrong?”

Brief architectural and historical description
Palazzo Soderini is a 15th Century historic palace on a Gothic plan located in Campo Bandiera e Moro in Venice, between San Zaccaria and the Arsenale, commissioned by the Soderini family, originally from Florence. In the main façade there are four high single-lancet windows; on the piano nobile, on the balcony is a diamond-point Gothic frame, interrupted by the addition of a dormer window with lateral volutes.
Two pateras (12th — 13th Century) in Greek marble, Gothic scudo (14th — 15th Century) in Istrian stone, in a rectangular and bas-relief insert (12th — 13th Century) in Greek marble. The two plaques on the façade are in memory of the brothers Emilio and Attilio Bandiera who lived here.
