Lino Tagliapietra. Glasswork

More than 65 works, of which 18 are being shown for the first time
in this inaugural exhibition of the Murano Maestro in his homeland

Inaugural project of the new InGalleria exhibition space at  Punta Conterie is Lino Tagliapietra. Glasswork from 8 September to 31 December 2019. The Maestro’s first solo exhibition in his homeland. Installations and previously unseen works see the return of the extraordinary artistic vision and creative capacity of the most important glass artist known throughout the world. Blown glass shapes by the Maestro draw, in a chromatic crescendo, a sinuous path through the magic of glass and the extraordinary spaces of the new Murano hub.

Considered one of the greatest interpreters of glass art in the world, Lino Tagliapietra exhibits in Murano for the first time a selection of works – partly from his historic archive, partly made expressly for this exhibition – in a journey that has been planned to retrace some of the Maestro’s artistic history.

Curated by Alessandro Vecchiato as the inaugural project of the new exhibition space InGalleria at Punta Conterie, Lino Tagliapietra. Glasswork promises to be a unique exhibition of its kind in which the blown glass shapes from the Maestro explode as true works of art, in a chromatic kaleidoscope that seem to defy the force of gravity. Experience, technique, investigation, experimentation, all become the ABC of Lino Tagliapietra’s creative vocabulary, a tribute to the history of Murano and at the same time evidence of the expressive freedom gained in over forty years of work.

Composed of 65 collected works in 9 installations grouped according to a chromatic scale extended from the most delicate neutral colours to the intensity of primary shades, the exhibition opens with the installation Wings of Glass, in which engraved glass seagulls will accompany the visitor in a journey from the ground floor to the upper floor towards the exhibition areas of InGalleria.

Many and varied works are on display at Glasswork, from Avventura – 50 small and unique shapes made with avventurina, a process of mixing translucent crystalline dough with brilliant copper crystals invented in Murano in the first half of the seventeenth century — to the iconic Dinosauri, recognised by their twisted necks that stretch gracefully upwards, from the Masai totems in the shape of leaves to Concerto di Primavera, notable for the use of a grinding process with outstanding use of transparency, highlighting shape and colour.

In the centre of the main entrance hall there is an impactful installation of Fuji works in bright colours.

Colour is also the theme which unites the extraordinary Venice Panel, hanging in apparent weightlessness, and the installation Endeavor in which 7 suspended gondolas of different colours and shapes invite you to take in the view of the San Donato canal in Murano. A dialogue of osmosis between inside and outside, between natural nuances and those of glass, between the colours of the lagoon and those that Lino Tagliapietra has made his own in a life-long career.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue edited by Alessandro Vecchiato with DW — Designwork graphics.
